Matthieu Sabourin, Time Out/Conucopia, 2015.

Opening: February 14, 7-10pm

Play It Safe is a sculptural and installation-based project concerned with pleasure and restriction. In this body of work, the artist presents dichotomies like leisure/labour and freedom/constraint as complex, paradoxical, and dynamic notions rather than clear-cut, straightforward, and stable concepts. Moreover, Play It Safe probes into the social, psychological, and ethical aspects related to rules and boundaries and the consequences of either respecting or transgressing them.

Matthieu Sabourin is an artist of Franco-Ontarian origin currently living and working in Montréal. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts and French Literature from the University of Ottawa as well as a Master’s degree in Sculpture from Concordia University. The artist has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada as well as in France and Scotland.
