Virginia Mark
Hidden Nature
March 11–April 9, 2005
Two-person exhibition with Tony Hafkenscheid.
Hidden Nature by Virginia Mak alludes to the timeless spiritual dialogue between the individual and nature. In this series, Mak invites the viewer to re-discover elements of Romantic paintings through a modern medium. She is interested in ‘pushing’ visual possibilities in photographs to beyond its traditional photo-realistic appearance. To achieve her uniquely subtle palette, Mak “…looked for very few colours in a frame and used soft focus to dissolve the spatial definition of the subject,” thus creating a quiet pause of colour and light.
